UCLA PEERS Social Groups in Sacramento, CA

Our clinic offers social groups throughout the year for high school students and young adults.

SOCIAL GROUPS

Our social groups are based on the UCLA PEERS model and generally have 6-10 participants per group. Groups run for 12-14 weeks and meet once per week for an hour and a half.

Our social groups focus on topics such as

  • building conversation skills,

  • making new friends,

  • resolving conflicts with others,

  • initiating get-togethers,

  • and navigating dating and romance.

There is also time each week for casual conversation, playing games, and getting to know all the group members. Our group members get to know each other well and often leave with new friends that they can connect with after the end of the group.

Group FAQs

  • Our social skills groups are held in person only at our office, located at 1050 Fulton Ave, Sacramento, CA.

We believe that in-person interaction provides the most effective environment for practicing and developing social skills in real time.

  • Our social skills groups are private pay only. If you are a regional center client, these services may be covered.

If you have questions about pricing or payment options, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help.

  • We aim to keep our social skills groups small, with a maximum of 8–10 participants per group. This allows for more individualized attention, better group dynamics, and a supportive environment where each participant can actively engage and build meaningful connections.

  • When forming a new group, we carefully consider the individual skill levels and developmental needs of each participant. For groups, people need to be able to participate independently, engage in structured conversation, and be at or close to grade level academically.

  • Yes, for our pre-teen and teen groups, parent participation is required. However, we offer flexibility—parents may choose to rotate attendance (e.g., every other week) based on their availability and comfort level. We believe that parent involvement is key to reinforcing skills outside of group sessions and supporting overall progress.

For our young adult group, parent participation is not required but highly encouraged. When parents do choose to participate, it is typically every other week rather than weekly. This optional involvement can help strengthen communication and support strategies at home.

  • Yes, we can—and have historically—accepted payments from third parties, including school districts, legal settlements, and Alta Regional Center. If you’re working with an outside agency or funding source, please contact us directly so we can coordinate the necessary documentation and billing arrangements.
